Of the 25 traditional dances recorded today, the most prevalent are limited to five: Pentozalis, Chaniotiko (Syrtos), Sousta, Maleviziotis ( bouncing Kastrinos ) and Sigano (Quiet).
Fast dances of Crete, Pentozalis, Sousta, Maleviziotis or Kastrinos and Pidihti have music accompaniment with origins from ancient Pyrrhichios dance that was a military one.
