    CRETAN DANCES

Dances are an essential cultural feature of Crete…

Of the 25 traditional dances recorded today, the most prevalent are limited to five: Pentozalis, Chaniotiko (Syrtos), Sousta, Maleviziotis ( bouncing  Kastrinos ) and Sigano (Quiet).

Fast dances of Crete, Pentozalis, Sousta, Maleviziotis or Kastrinos and Pidihti have music accompaniment with origins from ancient Pyrrhichios dance that was a military one.
