AVOID HEART DISEASE BY DANCING

Dancing reduces the risk of heart disease, according to a new Australian scientific study with Greek color.

The researchers, led by Daphna Merom of Western Sydney University, who published the paper in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, analyzed data on about 48,400 people over the age of 40 who did not have a heart problem at the start of the study. Of these, 3,100 were involved in dance, while by the end of the study there had been 1,714 deaths from cardiovascular causes.

Those who danced and walked regularly were less likely to die due to heart disease. People who danced were usually younger, had less weight, fewer chronic illnesses, and exercised more physically. The researchers reported that the protective effect of dance occurs in those who engage at least moderately, but not when their engagement is completely occasional. But they did not specify what the minimum recommended occupation with dance is.

“I would advise anyone who is a bit bored walking or likes challenges to try dancing,” said Merom, who clarified that the faster the pace of the dance, the greater the benefit to the heart and mood.

Emmanuel Stamatakis, associate professor at the University of Sydney, also participated in the research.
