Contemporary: The Dance of Revolution

Modern dance is a type of dance like ballet, jazz and arose as a form of “revolution” against the strict principles of ballet.

It focuses on the personal interpretation of the dancer and not on steps with a specific structure as is the case in ballet.

Basic characteristics of the dance are the freedom and intense expressiveness that characterizes the movements of the dancers.

Each dancer designs their own choreography and often invents steps that they use in their routines.

For contemporary dancers, dance is a manifestation of expression and there is no emotion that cannot be expressed through dance.

Dance can express joy, happiness, sadness, anger, passion, frustration, and every manifestation of human life.

Modern dance allows dancers to move freely, without setting rules and restrictions, which is why it is the completely free expression of every dancer.
