Kotsari :Pontiac levity in every step!

The kotsari is one of the most famous, recognized and beloved dances of the Pontic culture, while it is the national dance of the Armenians. The kotsari is a dance of the Eastern Pontus. It comes from Kars, from the regions of Argyroupoli and Paiport.

But mainly it was danced by the Greeks of the Caucasus!

It started traditionally as a men’s dance. Today, however, women also participate in it.

Dancers are held by the shoulders in a circle or semicircle. The steps-measures of the dance are eight and are divided into two dance images. Its rhythm is double and is not accompanied by songs, but is played only as an instrumental purpose. It is said that the name kotsari is due to certain lame steps taken by the dancers or to a double tap of the heel (kotch) during the performance of the dance.
