Merengue: The Root of Latin and American Dances
Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic and neighboring islands.
The word Merengue in Spanish means “beaten egg whites and sugar”, and probably refers to the lively nature of the dance.
In this specific dance, the body is relaxed and free, while the movements are made with passion, giving it, justly so, the title of fiery dance.
From this particular dance we learn the basic footwork technique of all Latin dances.
