Merengue: The Root of Latin and American Dances
Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic and neighboring islands.
The word Merengue in Spanish means “beaten egg whites and sugar”, and probably refers to the lively character of the dance.
In this dance the body is relaxed and free, while the movements are made with passion, thus justly giving it the title of fiery dance.
From this dance we learn the basic foot handling technique of all Latin dances.
