Tik Diplon :Double Level of Intensity

Tik Diplon or Tik So Jonathon or Kodespeniakon, was danced almost all over the Pontus in a circle, with a grip from the wrist and elbows bent towards the shoulders.

The name Tik is of Turkish origin and means straight, vertical, as is the body of the dancers, vertical, with the knees only bent. It is played by all the musical instruments of Pontus: lyre, aggion, gaval, zourna, dauli, clarinet, kemane, violin and utim and is characterized as an intense and simple dance.

It had a religious character, as in the old days, the primitives believed that in their magical rites, this circle, which was made of stones or wood, protected them from evil spirits.

The Tik dance is the representative dance of the Pontians, as it expresses the levity and pride of the Pontian soul!
