Tsamikos

Tsamikos: Expression of Greekness and Heroism

Tsamiko is a traditional Greek dance originating from Thrace and Asia Minor.

The word itself comes from the word tsamis, which means “tall”, and refers metaphorically to the Levantine height traditionally possessed by the dancers, since “tsami” is called fir or pine. It is also called Kleftikos, as it was danced by the Thieves during the Turkish occupation.

It is a dance that combines elegance with bravery and is an expression of the Greek soul and tradition. It is synonymous with celebration, gathering, wedding celebration, but also national identity.
