Ikariotikos or Kariotikos (as the locals call it) or Ikarian dance is a Greek traditional (island) dance, with roots from Ikaria. It is one of the most popular island dances of Greece.

There are two types of Ikarian dances:

  1. The authentic Ikariotikos (where it consists of 4 different songs-purposes, which together or separately make up the Ikariotikos dance), which is danced in their traditional festivals. Specifically, these are: Tsamourikos, Rachiotikos and Peramaritikos and the songs “Pera stou horio ti brysi” and “I simphethera”.

   2. The song “Ikariotikos” or “My love in Ikaria”.

In the Ikariotiko dance, the dancers are held high by the shoulders. The male and female dancers often perform complex steps and turns, creating a dynamic and impressive dance. The instruments that play the Ikariotiko are traditionally the tsambouna or tsambounofilaka, the violin and in more modern versions the guitar.
